If you’re interested in buying one of the luxury cars found on the Alfa Romeo FIAT of Santa Monica lot, you might wonder who owns the brand. After all, many automakers can exist under the same brand, so it’s not unusual to ask who owns Alfa Romeo. This is a brand with a long history, so here’s what you need to know about its recent owners and corporate structure.

Alfa Romeo History

The Alfa Romeo brand has been independent for most of its history, stretching back over a century. That changed in February of 2007. Alfa Romeo became Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A. After being purchased by Fiat. Then Fiat merged with American automaker Chrysler to form Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, or FCA, in 2012. So the Alfa Romeo brand was essentially owned by Fiat for a while. However, that changed in 2021, when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles merged with Groupe PSA, based in France. This group is responsible for brands like Peugeot. So now a new company, Stellantis, has been created. It combines 14 car brands diversified into commercial, luxury, premium, and sports vehicles.

The Alfa Romeo Brand Today

Although the ownership of the Alfa Romeo brand has changed in the past two decades, the brand’s ethos and mission have not. There is still the same laser-like focus on delivering fun-to-drive cars like the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. We can’t wait to see what else its engineers and designers have in store for us.
