Tailgate Safety 101

September 10th, 2022 by

2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia Estrema Football season is here, which means it’s time for tailgating! If you love getting together with your friends before a game, grilling up some delicious food, and sharing some drinks, you’re probably just as excited as we are. However, you need to make sure that you’re taking part in this seasonal activity safely. Protect yourself and your vehicle with these tips from your Alfa Romeo parts store.

Cook Meat to the Proper Internal Temperature

Undercooked meat can cause severe illness. Bring a food thermometer and test everything coming off the grill to ensure that it’s cooked to a safe internal temperature:

  • Burgers made from ground beef: 160 degrees
  • Chicken: 165 degrees
  • Pork sausage: 160 degrees

Bonus tip: make sure anything that should be cold stays that way — especially dairy or anything containing mayonnaise. Nobody wants food poisoning before or during the big event.

Keep Emergency Supplies on Hand

It doesn’t matter how careful you think you’re being. You need to prepare for anything, and that means keeping emergency supplies on hand. The spacious cargo area of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio has more than enough room for a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. Even if you don’t need it, another tailgater might!

Pack Sun Protection

Another thing you should remember to bring with you is sun protection. Stow away some sunscreen and make sure that a nasty sunburn doesn’t end up ruining your good time.

Stay Hydrated

If you’re outside in the sun for a long time, you need to stay hydrated. You might not notice how thirsty you are as you hang out with friends, work the grill, or talk about the day’s matchup, so make sure you drink plenty of water.
