1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto Red Taken by John Filiss; CC BY-SA 3-0 Made famous for its appearance in the classic 1960s film The Graduate, the Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider has long been synonymous with style, class, and elegance. This classic open-top sports car is getting a reboot, trading its four-cylinder gasoline engine for an all-electric powertrain. Reborn as the Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider EV, this upcoming all-electric Alfa Romeo Spider promises to retain every ounce of the original’s breathtaking style and driver-friendly capability.

Engine

By calling the new electric model the Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider EV, Alfa Romeo is alluding to its early roots. It’s unclear whether the all-electric engine will be all-wheel or rear-wheel drive, but the name hints it may be the latter, like the earlier models that carried that name.

We know it will be built on the STLA pure-electric architecture, which suggests the specifications we can expect. This platform supports battery sizes between 87 and 104 kWh and electric motors that can put out between 168 and 241 horsepower. In other words, the change from gasoline to electric shouldn’t keep this model from being a powerhouse worthy of its lineage.

What’s the Feel?

Although all the details about the Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider EV have yet to be released, the name expresses its design philosophy. From the first design, released in 1966, to the last release in 1994, the Duetto name has been synonymous with both power and luxury. It goes without saying that the new electric version will keep the iconic style that made it such a beloved sports car.

Even though the new Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider EV doesn’t have a release date yet, there are still dozens of great new Alfa Romeo vehicles to test drive at Alfa Romeo FIAT of Santa Monica. Come down today, and experience the difference for yourself!
